Gravity, Human Movement and Parkinsons Disease

Looking for better mobility? Michael Protzel has some marvelous suggestions for you.

Innate human coordination requires being in sync with the STRAIGHT-down influence of gravity. This enables us to tap the substantial energy generated by the downward movement of our body mass.

In infancy, we all learn this highly evolved skill as we teach ourselves to sit, stand and walk with grace and power. Early in childhood, however, through deep cultural conditioning, we forget. From the day we are born, we see everyone around us sitting back in chairs, sofas, car seats, etc. At around 3 or 4, we get sucked into this utterly normal, but mal-adaptive behavior. We begin sitting-back with staggering repetition. In so doing, we interfere with gravity’s influence by sending our body mass down on a BACKWARDS trajectory.

Our brains automatically react — with muscular strain and skeletal distortion — to keep our head/neck functionally vertical. We don’t notice these reactions nor feel anything unusual. It all happens subconsciously. This kinesthetic disconnect spills over into how we stand and walk.

The consequences are all around us: society-wide epidemics of bad posture, lower back and neck pain, knee and hip replacements. For people with Parkinsons, the consequences are even more severe, restricting free movement considerably. This can be changed — through re-developing sensitivity to our downward-moving body mass and how it is affecting us moment-by-moment.  www.uprighting.com

Positive Deviants in Parkinsons Disease: What do Non-Progressors have in Common

My guest today is Dr. Laurie Mischley ND who will be discussing her exciting research program and discoveries as they pertain to Parkinson’s disease. The focus of her work is on describing conditionally essential nutrients in Parkinsons disease (PD), attempting to describe the nutritional status and requirements unique to individuals with neurodegenerative diseases.

She has published on coenzyme Q10 deficiency in PD, completed her masters thesis on lithium deficiency in PD, and is currently completing her doctoral dissertation on glutathione in PD. In 2013, she and her team completed a Phase I Safety & Tolerability Study of Intranasal Glutathione in PD.

Dr. Mischley is a clinical research assistant professor at Bastyr University, where she is principal investigator of other PD studies including, CAM Care in PD and Cannabis in PD Tremor.

Trauma Release Exercises (TRE)

My guest today is Dr. David Berceli, PhD, creator of TRE® (Tension, Stress & Trauma Release Exercise) which is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. TRE® safely activates a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

Dr. Berceli explains the potential therapeutic value of tremors in this Youtube video and is the author of Shake it Off Naturally.

This Youtube video is a testimonial of a man diagnosed with Essential Tremors who found TRE helpful.

How to Create New Neural Pathways

Doing the same things the same way day in and day out dig deep ruts into the same, tired neural pathways. Our neurons get rutted and cluttered with debris. Symptoms flare.

What can be done? Existing neurological pathways can be cleared and cleansed or we can create new pathways. Either approach reduces or eliminates symptoms.

The most expedient approach is to pave new pathways which means our habits have to be transformed. How can this be accomplished? Answering this question has been the focus of my research over the past year. Two opportunities are available to explore the possibilities.

First, natural methods to create new neural pathways can be explored which is the focus of my Jump Start to Recovery  course.

Second, I discuss a variety of exciting methods for creating new neural pathways during this radio show. All of my suggestions embrace natural approaches.

Treatments for Tremors

During my show today I preview highlights from my new book, Treatments for Tremors, and offer suggestions about natural therapies that have proven successful in calming them. What are the causes of tremors? What natural remedies helps calm them? I have taken the best ideas which have emerged from a exciting decade of research.

A variety of natural therapies that sedate tremors are previewed. These include supplements, essential oils, herbs, foods and other therapies that have proven successful. The focus of my research has been to identify therapies that always put you in control of your own recovery program. Take control of the tremor rather than allowing the tremor to control you.

My new book, Treatment for Tremors, is now available in two forms: a paperback and a download to your computer.
