New news from the Pedaling for Parkinson’s front. Former guests, John Carlin and Nan Little, who both have Parkinson’s and have ridden their bikes across Iowa for the last two summers, are readying themselves for another great adventure.
In a few weeks they will attempt to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, with a group of Parkinson’s and MS patients. Their leader, Lori Schneider who lives with MS, has summit-ed the highest peak on each continent. John and Nan attribute their ability to get stronger, more fit, and even more adventuresome with PD to riding their bikes at a high cadence several times per week.
My guest Jodi Winnwalker, CEO of Earthtones Music Therapy Services in Portland, Oregon, has helped form a new music therapy group and choir in the Portland Metro area for people witt Parkinson’s Disease who talk too-softly (plus their care-partners and families). The choir is called The Tremble Clefs.
The goals of the project are to use researched- based-music-therapy techniques to improve vocal quality, strength, clarity, volume, projection, and breath support. In addition the program provides mental stimulation, promotes emotional well being & self esteem, provides opportunities for social connection & support in a wheelchair-accessible fun, success-oriented, musical environment at little to no cost.
As important, it provides an opportunity for the family members of people with PD to proactively participate while educating the public about what people with Parkinson’s Disease CAN DO. Learn More about the power of music to change the lives of patients and their families
Recovering Parkinsonian Holly Hughes shares her whole body approach to naturally reversing the disease, including holistic treatment of systemic candida growth. Like many who are diagnosed with early onset PD, traditional doctors dismiss many known related issues that when addressed and alleviated provide relief of PD symptoms. Holly will also share her results from detoxing the body of heavy metals, utilizing vibroacoustic therapy and teaching a metaboliQ lifestyle.
Our bodies and our lives are ordered by rhythms great and small, so rhythm feels great and does us good.
Parkinson’s Disease is one of the best examples to depict how rhythmic response can either throw off or balance the bodys physical activity needs and facilitate the integrity of machinery for maintaining a cell’s energy level. As many are aware (PD) is a form of accelerated aging. Shaking, tremors, the imbalance of neurotransmitters, and many other conditions of PD lead to declining efficiency and function in the body.
Randy Eady, located in Delray Beach, Florida, where he is known as the “Foot Whisperer” for his promotion of whole body health and balance through treatment of the feet, discusses a program designed to help both medicalized and “non-med” PDers deal with the condition’s symptoms.

Two years ago I launched a investigation on the use of meditation as a way of reducing stress and ameliorating the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. I collaborated with psychotherapist Nancy Welch who recruited national authors, medical doctors and other experts to talk about how to reduce stress and trauma.
This show airs an interview with one of the persons on the interview panel. Darlene Cohen, author of Turning Suffering Inside Out. This week’s show celebrates Darlene’s incredible life. She died in January of 2011 of cancer.
Sharry Edwards from Sound Health has been systematically analyzing the commonalities across voice profiles that have been taken of people with Parkinsons symptoms. Some of the profiles were taken from listeners of my radio show. Others were taken from people who attended Parkinsons Recovery Summits.
You are going to be truly amazed at what she has discovered. You will also be very surprised about the factors she has identified that are common to Parkinson’s Disease. Her research discoveries will inspire a different approach to the diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson’s symptoms.
Get ready to be excited and dazzled. This show will knock your socks off without even taking your shoes off. Sharry will be joined by Dr. Roman Chrucky, MD, who will discuss his own experience with voice profiling. I believe this is one of the standard medicines of the future.
The show lasts one and a half hours. Listening could potentially be a life changing experience for you and your family.
In my book of wisdom, everyone needs support to recover from the symptoms of Parkinson’s. Coaching can prove to be an invaluable resource for anyone on the road to recovery. Want to know how? Howard Shifke can help.
Howard Shifke is symptom free today after experiencing virtually all of the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease several years ago. Howard has a unique and fascinating perspective on what caused his symptoms and what he needed to do to address the causes.
Howard recovered using a holistic, drug-free approach that he developed. Howard’s recovery was a long, hard fight, but he has been symptom free since June 12, 2010, and on August 5, 2010, his neurologist stated that much to his surprise, Howard was in fact symptom free from Parkinson’s. Howard has chronicled his story on his blog, http://fightingparkinsonsdrugfree.com
Color brings back a sense of excitement and healing if you happen to currently experience the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Color therapy changes chaos, stress and trauma into calmness and balance. Now that is not a bad outcome for a therapy that is safe, natural and non-intrusive.
Arlene Arnold has been using color therapy to facilitate healing of chronic illness for over a decade. For more information about Color Therapy visit Arlene’s Website The Power of Color
Stress and chronic illness are interconnected. Scientists have shown that when the body is chronically stressed it is unable to properly regulate hormones and the immune system, which results in illness. Stress comes from many sources including physical threats, daily tasks, problems, fatigue, anxiety and illness. Stress has a significant impact on PD patients because it decreases the bodys ability to repair and regenerate as well as worsening PD symptoms, especially tremor.
Hypnotherapy has been shown to be highly effective at reducing stress. Hypnotherapist Steve Frison discusses hypnotherapy and how it is used to reduce symptoms and improve the health and well-being of those with PD.
